Public can review bike plan

By Gregg Hennigan

IOWA CITY – Bicyclists will want to check out the draft of a plan that lays out how Johnson County can become more bike friendly.

The proposal can be found by clicking here. It was undertaken by the Johnson County Council of Governments, which is a countywide planning organization.

Part of the goal is to get area communities designated Bicycle Friendly Communities by the League of American Bicyclists. Iowa City was once recognized as one but lost it when the standards were toughened up.

People are invited to share their opinions on the JCCOG plan.
Local municipalities will be able to consider adopting the plan after July 9, and public hearings will be scheduled locally for verbal input, according to a news release. Send comments to Kristopher Ackerson, JCCOG assistant transportation planner, 410 E. Washington St., Iowa City, IA 52245; by e-mail at kristopher-ackerson@iowa-city.org; or by fax to (319) 356-5217.
